The word taxonomy is a word that comes from the Greek and is used to name that process of classification Y ordering that serves to organize different types of knowledge. In Greek, taxos means ordering, organization and nomos laws, rules. Thus, taxonomy is what various sciences and scientific branches use to classify their specific knowledge so that it is kept orderly and clear to be used or analyzed.
Taxonomy can be applied to any aspect or area of life, even outside of science. Although the idea of taxonomy is usually related mainly to the natural Sciences such as the biology (from the classification of animal and plant species, etc.), reality shows us that one can carry out a taxonomic process from any type of knowledge or data set that exist. For example, one can classify the collection of books that one may have by Author or by name of work and in both ways a taxonomy process would be carried out.
One of the characteristics of taxonomy is that it allows data to be grouped or classified into sets each smaller or more specific, in such a way that they can be accessed much easier and signaling their
traits particular and specific. This is clear when talking about animal species that descend from the same group, for example felines being progressively classified and labeled according to differential features between each of them. Thus, groups like class, subclass, order, suborder, family or tribe are concepts common to biological Sciences (for example) that serve to locate existing living beings from largest to smallest. Then, with the classified and organized data, much more adequate and complete analyzes and observations can be carried out that allow to obtain better final results. Topics in Taxonomy
