Iconology is a discipline that takes care of study, detect and explain all those pictorial representations that indicate virtues, vices, moral issues or any another type of natural question that deserves to be highlighted by the people who are practicing or developing them in the work in question.

It is worth noting that depending on the object of study it is subdivided into the following branches: pagan iconology (focuses on the study of images that have to do with objects and cult characters), iconology civil (this branch is dedicated to those figures who have not had one responsibility religious but rather civil, politics) e religious iconology (He focuses on studying people of religion, saints, angels, and God himself).
