When something or someone is characterized by being weak, fragile, or by presenting little or no endurance, it will be said of him or it that he is weak. So by this we mean that the word can be applied to people as well as to objects and situations.
In the specific use in relation to people, we must say that it is usual to use it in contexts where a person suffers from some condition or disease, because of course, suffering from a health problem always suffers vigor and force that the person normally presents. Diseases weaken individuals and then in this scenario the word at hand can be used. Mario is in poor health since being diagnosed with pancreatitis.
But not only on the physical plane can someone's weakness be appreciated, also on the plane emotional it can be identified when the person turns out to be easy to handle, to manipulate. The weak person in this sense will accept without resistance what is imposed on him, even in situations in which he is right.
On the other hand, those materials or objects that are not very resistant will be considered flimsy. When a material breaks or breaks easily at the slightest manipulation it will be considered as weak. In some contexts this type of feature is not recommended to use precisely because of its ease of breaking. For example, at the behest of the building of buildings cannot be used flimsy materials, it will be necessary to use hyper solid and resistant materials because otherwise the construction runs risk to collapse with the dangers and problems that this would generate in people's lives.
And it is also common for us to use this concept to refer to those issues that are not characterized by being solid or by having a future in the area where they arise. So, for example, we can say that your draft business is weak for the current economic context or that the complaint filed by the prosecutor is weak because it has too much probative value.
We must indicate, regarding this word, that it is more common to read or listen to it in a formal context, being more common to use one of its synonyms, weak, in using colloquial and more common, to refer precisely to the weakness that presents something.
The opposing concept is that of solid.
