In Spanish, the combination of C + vowel is very common. For example: ACnot, ECcalf, cine, cordon, cucurucho.
The letter C has a strong sound when A, O, and U follow it, and a soft sound with E and I. The latter is pronounced differently in different Spanish-speaking regions. In some of them, it sounds the same as the S and can cause confusion in the writing if the spelling rules are not known.
