Syntactic analysis distinguishes two main segments in a sentence: subject and predicate. Each of them in turn has a nucleus, which is the most relevant word in the entire segment: without it, the segment would have no meaning.
If a subject has two nuclei, it is a compound subject. For example: Amalia Y Carlos they're traveling.
If a predicate has two cores, it is a compound predicate. For example: Children they enjoyed Y they rested.
