Categorical imperative
The categorical imperative It is a concept of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant, which is related to ethics. Categorical imperatives are moral commands that should guide people's actions. For instance: SAlways be respectful. You never have to steal.
For an imperative to be categorical, people have to act without taking other human beings as means to achieve something, since the action carried out cannot be a means to achieve another thing. The action has to be an end in itself and it has to be a universal maxim, that is, the material context in which that action occurs does not matter.
The categorical imperative is universal and necessary, that is, it must always be fulfilled and has no other purposes or justifications that are alien to it. This concept differs from the hypothetical imperative, which is not universal, but depends on the situation and, in this case, doing well is a means to an end.
There are two ways to establish a categorical imperative:
