Using the C

The letter C is a consonant y is the third letter in the alphabet. This letter is widely used in Spanish. For instance: cebra, bocto, conctrue.

This letter has two possible pronunciations with vowels:

In front of E and I, C and S are pronounced the same way in almost all of Latin America, but in Spain these letters have a different sound. In all countries, the C followed by E or I has the same sound as the letter Z. These pronunciation similarities or equivalences cause confusion about which letter to use when writing.

1. All the infinitives of verbs that end in -ciar, -ceda, -cendir, -cer, -cibir, -cidir, -cir and -ducir are written with C. There are some exceptions: sewing, coughing, grasping, anesthetizing, craving, crippling.
