We can define solidarity as the act by which a person performs actions for the benefit of another without receiving anything in return. Solidarity is really the basis of society human if it is taken into account that taking care of each other is that we can survive. However, nowadays solidarity tends to go unnoticed or does not occupy as much space in our lives due to all the occupations and issues that we usually have to solve.

This makes the phenomenon of solidarity very particular: there are situations or circumstances in which the inhabitants of a community the most basic solidarity is activated and put into play (for example, when they organize to help those affected by a catastrophe climate) but there are also situations in which individualism prevails and it is difficult to see the other who suffers, alone, in the street, without the protection of nobody.

Solidarity as a collective project: advances in the absence of the State

It is often argued that solidarity is a good way to alleviate painful situations in which the State demonstrated its absence or did not act correctly. Thus, popular organization in the face of government abandonment often ends up being very effective. However, we must mark that this is not enough since it is

responsibility of the States and those who administer the resources to act correctly to avoid catastrophes or situations of abandonment but also to counteract them when they occur.

It is common to see people on the street, left to the fate of a lack of protection and although many people they can organize themselves to help, this is a duty of the State that any citizen should be able to claim and demand that it be fulfilled.

As citizens it is also our responsibility to demand that such obligations come true not only for us but when we see someone helpless. It is from the idea of ​​solidarity with the other that NGOs, non-profit organizations governments that jointly and disinterestedly seek to solve problems where the State does not is present.

Solidarity is a human act of helping others and contributes to social development

The importance of solidarity has to do directly with social development. In this sense, it is important to clarify that by solidarity we understand any disinterested act that may mean a benefit for a third party and that deep down also supposes some level of satisfaction for the one who carries it out.

This is so since any person who acts in solidarity must necessarily have some level of awareness about the unprivileged situation that the other is going through and consciously choose from there to help them by carrying out various types of actions that can collaborate so that this situation changes.

There are many ways to show solidarity, and while some people participate consistently and much more actively (such as someone who runs a children's soup kitchen, which requires a permanent presence), one is also supportive when performing a particular action that may not have continuity over time (such as when collaborating in a collection social). The important thing is to keep in mind that all the contributions that one can make will serve to improve the quality of life of those who do not they have everything and that then, solidarity can easily become a means to provide solutions or help those who need it most and also so that we feel part of a whole that is society, a society that must be livable for all its members and population.
