Literary Synthesis Example

The literary synthesis It is the summary of a book, regardless of its genre, as long as it maintains the essence of it. It seeks to briefly explain the plot, the characters, based on the beginning, climax and descent of the story. It can also contain a comment or opinion about the book or author, of the person who is writing the synthesis.

Memoria de mis putas tristes, is a short novel that tells the moving story of an elderly journalist who on his birthday number ninety she decides to treat herself to a night of pleasure with a virgin teenager and, without waiting for it, she falls in love with her for the first time in her lifetime... only that of a fourteen-year-old girl, whom he baptizes as Delgadina.
Desire and dissatisfaction are the motives for this semblance that causes the reader to be moved by the memories of a lonely old man who, even before falling in love with the young woman who she met in Rosa Cabarcas's brothel, she led a routine life dedicated exclusively to reading, listening to music, writing her column in El Diario de La Paz and enjoying sex with prostitutes.

Thus, as the protagonist falls in love, he changes his vision of the world and of existence — until the degree of questioning the limits of reality and the way he has lived for almost a century—; and he is building a relationship, a love and a very unique sexuality, according to the situation and the needs of both.
Night after night, the nonagenarian journalist visits the brothel where he spends entire evenings next to Delgadina, with whom he establishes a very original communication. While she is asleep, he sings to her, talks to her and reads to her works such as Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince, Perrault's Tales, the Sacred History and One Thousand and One Nights.
Throughout the novel, Gabriel García Márquez makes constant pictorial, literary and musical instruments that help create an atmosphere that fluctuates between tenderness, illusion, tragedy and hopelessness. Oriental conceptions of desire, love and sexuality are also recognized.

Memoria de mis putas tristes is a novel of pleasant reading that dazzles us with multiple sentences loaded with meaning and makes us reflect on love, sexuality and old age.
