This annual plant is known throughout the world and its scientific name is Chrysanthemum morifolim. It is normally used for ornamentation due to its striking colors. It began to be cultivated in China two thousand years ago, later it reached Japan and in the eighteenth century its culture in Europe.
Particularities of this jewel
It is an evergreen plant of the family asteraceae, woody at its base and which can reach a height of more than one meter. Its leaves have a simple structure and the range of colors is very wide (white, yellow, lilac, pink and other shades).
In the world of gardening
This plant has an autumn flowering and presents different varieties. If grown in the right conditions, it is possible to have flowers for about two months. As for its ornamental use, there are three options: as an indoor plant, place it in pots on a terrace or in a garden.
In any case, it is important to choose your location correctly so that your cultivation is satisfactory. In this sense, the chrysanthemum needs abundant light but not excessive heat or too intense sun rays. If they are placed in a garden, it should be done in a semi-shade under the trees. On a terrace it must be in a protected place and inside the
home near a window but without direct light. It must be borne in mind that if it does not receive enough light, the flowers do not open and the plants weaken and if the light is excessive the leaves turn yellowish and the plants do not grow adequately. The environment should be airy and cool, with few drafts air and with a temperature that is not less than seven degrees.
Chrysanthemums need abundant nutrients and for this reason you have to pay the plant already in the spring and also at the end of summer. As for watering, it has to be abundant but without flooding the plant. Finally, it should be noted that it is a very sensitive plant to pests.
Chrysanthemum tea
This plant has some culinary uses and chrysanthemum tea is one of the best known. This drink is normally consumed as a medicinal remedy, since with it various benefits are obtained for the health: it is relaxing, helps regulate cholesterol, balances blood pressure and helps in the digestion process of the food.
These properties are due to the fact that chrysanthemums have Beta-carotene as an active principle, a substance that enhances the immune system and inhibits bacterial infections.
