The need for R&D with global projection
ICTs have a transversal dimension, since they affect all sectors of the economy directly or indirectly. While technological development is a positive development in many ways, there are some issues that are worth raising. In the first place, if we live in a global world, it is reasonable to think that technological solutions should benefit the whole of humanity.
On the other hand, if technology is of general interest, major R&D decisions would have to be made in a participatory manner. Likewise, research in science and technology is desirable as long as it is accompanied by a project for the benefit of the majority and not for the benefit of a few.
In short, when talking about R&D, not only should the question of economic profitability be considered, but also the impact it may have on society as a whole and
environment.The case of South Korea
The prosperity of a nation no longer depends exclusively on its natural resources, their commercial networks or their ability to influence politics. In fact, investment in science and technology and the ability to innovation it is one of the aspects that determine the course of nations. South Korea's economic boom in recent decades is an illustrative example in this regard.
At present, many of the electronic devices and automobiles that are handled throughout the world have been manufactured in this Asian country. This circumstance is striking, since in the 1960s South Korea was one of the countries with the highest poverty rates on the planet. The South Korean population enjoys high economic and social well-being due to its strategy R&D.
The i for innovation
A new letter has been added to the name R&D in recent years, the i for innovation. This concept has an intangible component, since it is a force that allows ideas to be transformed into processes that provide some type of added value.
In business, the purpose of innovation is to increase competitiveness and productivity. The commitment to innovation presents different alternatives: a new product more effective than the previous one, faster and more decisive production processes or service proposals for the benefit of the consumers. The central idea of any innovative proposal can be summed up with a single word, creativity.
