    Spanish Classes   /   by admin   /   July 04, 2021

The exhortative prayers they are a type of imperative sentence, although some authors use it as synonyms.

In general, the same rules apply as for imperative sentences. Unlike imperative sentences, which express a final command, its variant exhortative invites action, but not in a final way, but as an invitation or recommendation.

The main uses of the exhortative prayer are as follows:

Recommendations and tips: We use this type of sentence when we want to make a recommendation or give advice on how something should be done or solved. In these cases it is common to use verb conjugations of the personal indicative:

    • They could push.
    • Try it and tell me.

Denials and prohibitions. It is used to give a warning about the danger or inconvenience of taking any action. The most common is that they contain a negative particle, such as no, never, never, not at all, among others. It is common to see it in warning messages:

    • Do not disturb, men at work.
    • Do not pass, high voltage.

Requests and requests. When used to request something, the exhortative sentence can be used with a conditional verb, or with some formality, the most common being the phrase “please”. In these cases it is also common for the prayer to be a combination of exhortative prayer and interrogative prayer.
