Example of Serious Words Separated Into Syllables
Spanish Classes / / July 04, 2021
They are known as serious words to the words that have the stressed syllable in the penultimate position. That is to say, in serious words, the penultimate of their syllables is the one that is pronounced with greater relief or intensity. The other syllables of the word grave, those that are pronounced with less intensity, are known as unstressed syllables. So, to identify a grave word, you have to identify the stressed syllable from the rest of the syllables and know in what position it is.
Let's look at some explained examples of grave words:
- Force: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: out - za
- Either: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: tam - po - co
- Napkin: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: be - saw - lle - ta
- advice: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: with - I know - ho

- Course: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: cur - za
- Anesthesia: this is a serious word because the penultimate syllable is the stressed syllable, the one that is pronounced with the greatest intensity: a - nes - tea - sia
Hyphenation of grave words:
To separate a serious word by syllables, one must take into account how the sounds are grouped to form said word.
Let us remember that the syllable is a union of sounds, which can be vowels or consonants, which are pronounced with a single voice emission; a word is made up of one or more syllables which are joined in longer chains.
The syllables can be pronounced with a pause between them, while pauses cannot be established between the sounds that make up a syllable since they are united as a whole.
Grave words can be made up of different amounts of syllables; Thus, there are grave words of two syllables (bisyllables), three syllables (trisyllables), four syllables (tetrasyllables), five syllables (pentasyllables), etc.
