A self-taught person is one who instructs himself and performs the learning of new knowledge through their own means, that is, he does not seek instruction, teaching from formal means such as the school, the teachers, but we said learn new knowledge by reading books on various subjects.
He is a student and a teacher
Without the help of third-party professionals, or the education normalized, the self-taught will train himself. He acts as teacher and student, that is, he constantly interacts between both roles, exchanging them of course when necessary.
Another important point to highlight is that it seeks all the information and documentation to make learning about it effective. He often turns to textbooks, technical, internet search, observation direct, attending conferences or any other method, system, that you think will be favorable for your mission.
However, we must emphasize that being self-taught is not for everyone, not everyone has the initiative or the ability to promote their own learning and without the help of anyone.
You have to have time to do it and of course also be constant. People who do not have these important conditions will find the issue complicated.
A complication that the self-taught person usually faces is that the way in which he apprehends knowledge does not culminate in the Obtaining any degree or certificate that guarantees that you have learned what you studied in a compliant way, that can only be issued by a institution formal academic in which you have completed a career, so if the professional market requires a certification, it will be a stumbling block to get into the job market.
Formerly, it was very common to meet self-taught, even many great intellectuals, politicians, and scientists of history were self-taught. This is not so common today because the basic education and then the university are hyper installed as the way through which a person is assured in a way according to the instruction and after it, and with the obtaining of a degree, to be able to dedicate themselves to what has been studied.
What is self-learning?
Meanwhile, to the way of learn by oneself it is known as self-learning. Self-learning basically consists of the individual search for information and also individual performance of the corresponding experiments and practices.
Self-learning in some way is something that is found in almost every organisms innately alive and generally brought to light at the behest of the game. Although it is not kept in mind or in mind at the precise moment of the game, playing implies the apprehension of new skills and the improvement of those already possessed.
Self-learning almost always begins with play and then, over time, it is discovered that a lot has been learned in this way, in addition to having fun of course.
Among the main advantages that can be attributed to this form of learning are the following: it encourages curiosity, investigation, self-discipline, development of the ability to solve problems on their own, allows more time to be spent on difficulties and dedicating less time to what turns out to be easier, constructive, contributes to developing personalities positive.
It may happen that the self-taught person finds himself in certain moments in front of a problem that is difficult to solve, then, which generally will do is use other self-taught with the same interests and who have already gone through such a problem and thus help him to solve it and get over it. Forums, newsgroups, and mailing lists often offer a lot of help to self-learners. Meanwhile, the resolution of an obstacle today will help another self-taught in the future with the same complication.
In self-learning the roles of teacher and teacher are constantly reversed. The self-taught while learning can teach, motivate teaching others and also be productive in many other matters such as creating a program.
Obviously the cost of self-learning is practically nil and much lower than that of traditional learning.
