Envy is a very common feeling and is part of the human condition. Normally it has a very harmful ingredient, since it implies significant doses of hatred and inner discomfort.
The tendency to compare ourselves with others
Envy usually produces a comparison with someone. Thus, an individual compares himself with another and believes that the merits or achievements of the other person are undeserved and unfair. From this initial emotion, you want what the other has due to an inferiority complex or any other emotional imbalance.
As a general pattern, we are envious of people of our personal environment, whether they are friends, neighbors or colleagues. job.
The envious person feels unhappy because he does not have what he considers he should have. His unhappiness makes her angry and helpless. Faced with this situation, we can do something to avoid comparing ourselves to others and stop feeling envy.
Overcoming the feeling of envy is a personal victory that makes us feel better about ourselves
On many occasions the envious person makes a mistake in his initial approach: he considers that if he had what others have, he would be a happier person. This idea is unfounded because happiness does not depend on the successes achieved but on our inner well-being. We all know that there are unhappy people with all kinds of assets and very happy people with few means and possessions.
To stop being envious we can talk to ourselves with a sincere approach and ask ourselves if what the other has is really deserved or not. If someone has struggled to achieve something and finally succeeds, it is absurd for us to be envious of it, because it is something totally reasonable and fair. On the contrary, if someone does not deserve success and despite this they achieve it, this situation does not have to affect us.
If envy is overcome, multiple benefits are obtained: inner rage disappears, the inferiority complex is eliminated and there is an increase in self-esteem staff.
The most absurd deadly sin
If we analyze the seven capitals sins, we come across the fact that envy is really absurd because it does not produce any benefit and only generates frustration.
By letting ourselves be carried away by lust, we obtain pleasure. When laziness invades us, we are calm. The desire to eat, gluttony, also provides obvious personal satisfaction. After an explosion of anger we can feel relieved.
Whoever is greedy normally accumulates goods and can enjoy them. If we are arrogant we believe we are superior to others and in this way we feel good. On the other hand, envy is not accompanied by any advantage or satisfaction and only generates resentment and impotence.
