The atheist denies the existence of God and adheres to atheism
Through the term atheist, the person who denies the existence of a God as the creator of all things and humanity is designated, atheism being the doctrine to which he adheres and proclaims.
Atheists declare that they do not believe in any particular god such as the God of Christians, Allah of Muslims, or Yahweh, for the religion Jewish, among others, however, being an atheist does not imply not belonging to any religion, because for example there are religions such as Buddhism that deny the existence of God, but they certainly do They focus their beliefs on a prominent character from whom they absorbed them and who in some way fulfills the function of spiritual guide, the most emblematic case in this case is that of Buddha, the wise who lived in the 6th century BC. near the Himalayas and whose teachings are the base and pillar of Buddhism, a popular philosophical and religious doctrine very followed especially in the East.
A philosophical position that proposes not to believe any god
Although, then, the atheist accepts some religious elements, it is important to emphasize that the doctrine that they propose and that we mention, atheism, is not falls within what is formally understood as religion, but rather we must frame it as a philosophical position that basically does not believe in God.
Popularly Christianity uses it to account for those who do not believe in their God. But we must say that the atheist disbelieves, does not believe in any type of divinity, be it God, Allah, Yahweh or whatever, and neither does he in any entity with supernatural characteristics. Atheists usually escape the belief in these entities that millions of people faithfully follow only moved by a feeling of faith, of simply believing, of acceptance total to what they propose.
The word atheist was used for the first time in Ancient Rome to refer to one who did not believe in the gods of the Roman pantheon, particularly at that time it referred to Christians.
Within the doctrine promoted by the atheist we can find different types of this, from which it follows that there are several types of atheists.
Classification of atheists
Strong or positive atheism (categorical denial regarding the existence of gods, argues against these existences through sociological, psychological and historical explanations); weak or skeptical atheism (it turns out to be the most common form, it does not imply a belief in the nonexistence of gods, but rather the absence of belief in them); atheism agnostic (He does not explicitly deny the existence of gods, but only denies the knowledge of their existence).
Symbology
While there is no symbol defined nor official with which atheists distinguish themselves, there are two quite popular, one includes an A and a T in a circle and is the manifestation of the proposal of the Union of Cyber Atheists. And the other symbol proposes a square in a circle, very, very similar to the previous one.
Theism, its counterpart
The other side of atheism is theism, a religious doctrine that supports the existence of a God, free, who sees and knows everything, who governs and has been responsible for the creation of the world in which we live. And it is precisely on this omnipotent question of God that the main criticism and distancing of atheism with respect to theism is based, because precisely atheists maintain that if indeed If there was a God who sees everything and governs, injustices, crimes could never exist, among so many reprehensible issues that we normally find ourselves with on the planet that we live.
The difference with the agnostic
When addressing this concept we cannot avoid that it is normally associated with agnostic and agnosticism, although it has nothing to do with it... And this is because agnostics They do not reject the possibility that God exists, they only consider that the divine is certainly complex to accept and understand by reason and then they do not know if it exists or not. While the atheist rules out existence outright.
Current position vis-à-vis the atheist
Throughout history and today there are many famous people and many others who are not who manifest atheists. In the more remote past there could be a persecution or a discrimination towards them, especially when proclaimed in religiously fervent contexts. At present it is a position that is certainly accepted and respected, even by those who think differently.
